Standing on what will be the driveway to our new home, you know – the home we’ll share with a baby. Crazy.
S U R P R I S E
We’re having a baby & building a new home!
OH, BABY!
If you’re shocked, don’t worry, so were we. Although I found out that with the more people we told, we were really the only ones that were shocked. Apparently people don’t actually think it’s that weird for almost 30 year olds who have been married for 4 years to have kids – crazy 🙂 . Erick & I have been together for 11 years this fall and were both the people who would say, when asked, that we didn’t know if we wanted kids or not. We could see it happening but could also see ourselves living a completely happy life just the two of us as well. The older we got the more the latter seemed to sit with us more comfortably. You might have gathered at this point that we weren’t trying to get pregnant however at the same time I feel like that is unfair to say considering we are two grown adults who are well aware of how a baby is made. So, while we weren’t necessarily trying we also weren’t preventing it from happening either, like we had been in the past. Yes, this was a big surprise but I want to make sure it’s known that both Erick and I recognize how very fortunate we are and that we are very excited for this next chapter in our lives. We might just be a little bit terrified at the same time too. 🙂
Here’s where my head was at before we found out…
I turned 29 this past May and around that time I told myself that next year on my 30th I will not be this unhealthy. I’m not happy with how I feel, how my clothes fit, how my feet ache just from walking long periods of time – not healthy. So I committed to myself that by next May on my 30th birthday I will have lost the 50+ pounds my body needs to thrive and be healthy + most importantly, feel better. If you follow me on Instagram you even saw this spring that I had started working out with a trainer 3 days a week + doing cardio at home on the opposite days. I told myself that I would want to enjoy my new healthy body for 6ish months after losing the weight and then I’d be fine with starting to try for a baby (if that’s what we wanted to do) by winter/spring 2022. Also, with so many more women being transparent on social media about the struggles of getting pregnant and infertility (which is so needed and very much appreciated) I think I just kind of believed that would be the situation for us as well. That it would take us time to get pregnant and that we might even struggle to do so. WELL, I can confirm that it’s true what they say about making plans and the greater power laughing at them. I am a firm believer in that everything happens for a reason and you can absolutely handle what life gives you, whether you’re ready or not.
While it took me a couple of days after finding out to accept the fact that I won’t be getting the body transformation I was planning on and instead a different kind of body transformation – I came to peace with it. I know that sounds very very selfish but it’s my truth. I always thought to myself being pregnant will be so much easier on my body once I lose the extra weight too. So the fact that all of that was immediately thrown out of the window was just a hard pill to swallow. Erick was very surprised at first when I told him but after about an hours time he was SO EXCITED, the shock wore off much sooner for him than me which I found surprising but also very sweet. I will get more into how I found out and how I told him when I do my first trimester q&a blog post later this week or early next week. If you have anything specific you want to know, drop it in the comments section below and I’ll do my best to answer.
HOME BUILD
We had actually bought land and started the home building process a few weeks before finding out I was pregnant. Perfect timing, right? We have finalized the floor plan, trees have been cleared and the basement/foundation work will begin here in a few weeks. We are hoping to have a finished home by late next spring! I plan to share updates along the way including what finishes/lighting/paint colors/etc. we end up going with and I know I’ll want to get your opinions on some things too. Stay tuned!
Thanks so much for reading and coming along on this new + exciting chapter of life with us!
