This weekend I was lucky enough to inherit this gorgeous old church pew that my dad got at an auction. My parents didn’t have the room for it at their house (or didn’t want to find the room) and they knew how much I loved it. Truth be told, I really don’t have room for it at my house either but when you’re obsessed with something, you make it work!
I just loving the charming character the old distressed church pew brings into any home. You can use church pews as a bench on either side of your kitchen table, at the end of your bed, or like I did as an entryway bench. Today I’m sharing what items I used to decorate this gorgeous piece of furniture to take it to that next level.
{ Cozy it Up }
One of the easiest things to do here is add decorative pillows and a cozy throw blanket to your church pew. Since church pews are made of solid wood this helps add a cozy comfort and a more welcoming vibe opposed to the normally conservative feel a church pew gives off. I live for neutrals and I just love the mixed textures and neutral colors from the grey, cream, and tan colors I used here. You can find similar grey and tan plaid checkered pillows here and here. My grey rectangle fuzzy pillow here, though I’d check out your local TJ Maxx or Homegoods as I’ve seen these everywhere for under $20. You can find this super soft Chenille tassel throw in four different color options and under $20 here. I love my grey Quatrefoil printed rug, I find I’m always rotating it around the house from the living room, under the kitchen table, laundry room, and now merchandising it perfectly with the church pew. Fabulous news, this 5 ‘x 7’ rug is 50% off this week and only $60 {reg. $120)! I found a similar shabby chic french country over sized pillow here. I bought mine at Homegoods where they had both white and the grey to choose from.
{ Storage + Themes }
I added two wood crates I picked up at an antique store awhile ago underneath the church pew. Adding some crates or cute baskets makes perfect for storage whether it’s for shoes, magazines, the dog’s leashes, whatever! Plus they just add that little something that brings the look together. I also can’t wait to add a little themed decor with each holiday, I know I’m getting ahead of myself here but picturing white pumpkins and cotton stalks along the pew is getting me all sorts of excited!
